A novel expression profile of miR-377 predicts poor prognosis of human cervical cancer.
microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in several biological processes, including tumorigenesis. However, the role of miR-377 in cervical cancer remains largely unknown. In the present study, we demonstrated that miR-377 was downregulated in cervical cancer tissue and cell lines. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that low miR-377 expression was associated with poor survival. By transfecting the miR-377 mimic or inhibitor into SiHa or HeLa cells, we demonstrated that miR-377 overexpression inhibited and miR-377 knockdown promoted cervical cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion, as well as promoted apoptosis. Further analysis indicated that cyclin D2 was the direct target gene of miR-377. In summary, our findings indicate that miR-377 might function as a tumor suppressor in cervical cancer and might be a novel prognostic marker for cervical cancer patients.By Phil Stewart
TAMPA, Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida state senator whose office was the target of a gunman who killed two and injured three people in November will not seek re-election in 2020, saying she cannot continue to serve in the Republican-dominated Legislature.
The senator, Shawn Harrison, said in a statement on Friday that she had "decided not to run for re-election because I can no longer be effective in the Senate. I can no longer be effective as a Senator while I am running for re-election."
Harrison was shot by 50-year-old John McCallister in her state Senate office in Pasco County north of Tampa. She was not injured.
McCallister was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree ac619d1d87
